At Weybridge Pottery, we are constantly seeking new talents to join our community of potters.
If you're just starting out on your pottery journey, our "Introduction to Throwing" class
is tailored to beginners like you. This comprehensive course spans over 10 weeks, with one to two hour sessions
each week, typically held on Wednesday evenings.

- You will make mistakes, pots will fly off the wheel, but you will soon establish a routine that works for you
Personalized Instruction and Practice
The initial four classes are conducted on a "one-on-one" individual tuition.
The firing schedule is flexible, depending on the ongoing firings at the studio.
Philosophy
At Weybridge Pottery, we firmly believe that pottery is primarily about practice .
Glazing sessions require the patience of a saint, and are best not rushed. Usually there will be a glazing party,
with several students all learning from each other, and getting to know the kit.
Our ultimate aim is to nurture your passion for pottery, equipping you with the skills
to continue creating and potentially sell your work at craft fairs.
Course Fees and Materials
- The fee for this 10-week course is £290
- 50% advance payment required on the day of the first class
- If you need to have a special class, either as a refresher,
or because you have a particular project, then individual tuition is £30 an hour
This covers instruction time, and studio usage. Any pots that go through the bisque, or glaze firings are charged at £6 a kilo.
Inspired by the Mingei ethos of Japanese potter Hamada, we primarily work with stoneware,
known for its durability and versatility. The result should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Weybridge Pottery is a local organisation. You will need to live very close to the pottery, as often you will need to pop in for just 10 minutes.
It doesn't work if you have to drive for miles.
The ITT is not suitable for anyone under 18. Upon completion of this "Introduction to Throwing" (ITT) class,
you'll transition into our Apprentice program where you will be able to work unattended
at a time to suit you in our studio. TBH I'm really looking for apprentices who will committ to a few hours a week for the rest of your life.
There are currently 25 apprentices.
Conclusion
At Weybridge Pottery, we view pottery not just as a hobby, but as a way of life, like woodwork or cooking.
Through crafting beautiful and functional pieces, we aim make useful pots for you, your family and friends and
society as a whole.
