Weybridge Pottery

Apprentice program

Lost pot

Weybridge pottery is always looking out for new potters to join us. If you are an experienced potter, or just need somewhere to work, or you have completed your Introduction to Thowing class (ITT), then you will be ready to join our apprentice program.
You will work unattended, at a time that suits you, in the studio. You let yourself in to the pottery (which is basically our garage converted into a pottery studio with a key. There are currently (2026) 25 apprentices, some who only use the kiln, some who only come very occasionally. A hard core come regually, and will contribute over 100 pots to our successful craft fairs

There is an online booking system so that you can find out if the studio is free.

Link to calender to book studio time (Doodle)
  1. You pay £6 an hour for studio time (recorded by you in a book in the pottery)
  2. Bisque fired pots are weighed and recorded in the book and are charged for at £6 a kilo per firing
  3. Glaze fired pots are weighed and recorded in the book, and are charged £6 a kilo
  4. When you attend a craft fair, you will be charged for your % of the table area that you use (normally about £5 for a table of pots). You keep any proceeds of your pots sold
  5. Some apprentices like to work at home and just need the kiln. The kiln is 65cm x 65cm , and so takes a lot of pots.
You can hire a whole firing of the kiln for £70
For the potters who work at home, you can buy a 12.5kg bag of clay from me for £12 for stoneware and £29 for porcelain, which is a bargain as I order large deliveries and shipping costs are minimal.
  6. I settle quarterly (ish) "the book" , and send you an invoice.
Sometimes the sales of apprentices's pots amounts to more than their costs for that half year, so you will then recieve a payment from me.

I often pop in to see apprentices when they are in the studio. But we travel alot, and play sport most days when in England, so most apprentices work quietly by themselves.

All users of the pottery must live in Weybridge or very close and have access to a car (for transporting pots). Prices valid as of 1st January 2026
